When I found out that there was Halo Halo a reasonable walk away, I wanted to go to Rene-Rose Island Cuisine. This take-out prepared food spot is located in a small strip mall with shared parking.
Their halo halo $6 was pretty good once I scooped out some of the mound of crunchy shaved ice. Their turon $1.50 was pre-made and held in the fridge, but it was still crispy and tasty. -

For my first visit, I decided to come in for dinner on a week night. Rene-Rose Island Cuisine is hole-in-a-wall restaurant serving Filipino cuisine. It is a "turo-turo" style restaurant, which means choose whatever they have already prepared! They prepare about 12 dishes.
I arrived around 4:30 pm. I was the only customer present! I noticed that most if not all the dishes were like leftovers! Nothing appeared fresh! The Lechon Kawali tray was empty, but I asked if they had any left and they said "yes".
I chose to get a combination of 2 dishes with rice and soup. I picked Lechon Kawali and Pork Sisig. The Lechon Kawali was good! It had good flavor and the skin was crispy! Lucky for me, they had just prepared the dish so it tasted fresh!
Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the Pork Sisig. It looked like it had been prepared during lunch earlier in the day and I was getting the leftover! The meat was dry and the flavor was lacking traditional Sisig flavors!!! This dish definitely failed in every way!!!
I also ordered some Lumpia Shanghai which was freshly cooked! It had good flavor!
Based on my experience tonight, I think it's best to come here during lunch, when the dishes are freshly prepared!
I would rate the good 2 stars and an additional 1 star for service! The folks that run the place are nice! So 3 stars overall! -

Pretty Solid Turo-Turo style Filipino restaurant tucked away in a small strip mall. I love the fact that I can add Fried Bangus in my lunch combo with no extra charge. Cheap and quality Filipino eats in my humble opinion.

I want to write a more thorough review after I come here again, but my first impression is pretty positive!
It's located in a small strip mall, across the street from a gas station and near a donut shop in Sunnyvale. As often as I've driven past this location, we only just recently came to visit! Sure, it's a little small and it's a little on the dingy side, but it's cozy.
It's sort of "cafeteria" style (we call it "turo-turo). You tell the nice tita behind the counter what combo plate you want, and she'll scoop dishes onto little plates for you, along with a bigger plate of rice and a bowl of soup (which tastes like singigang (spelling?!), but not as tangy or sour as I make it, which honestly is nice). The folks are nice and work quickly and they clean up the tables fairly quick, since they're fairly busy at lunch time. The tables come with some vinegar and other condiments for you as well.
I got the lechon and some meat dish that I can't remember the name of. My husband got the same beef dish and also pork adobo. For him, it was a lot greasier than he's used to when I cook it. But for me, all the food tastes like home. I like the greasiness of the dishes, I like the fatty bits of the lechon and the adobo, and I like the way the soup cuts through with the acid to compliment the greasy fattiness of the food. The lechon, for example, had extra crispy skin with just a bit of meat (a little dry), and the juicy fat coating it all. Eat it with a bit of rice to temper the fattiness and a bit of soup to balance the grease, and you have a perfect bite.
I also want to try the banana lumpia and the halo halo!
Like I said, I want to try more dishes before I give it a full rating, but for me, it felt so homey and so delicious that I definitely want to come back.
